Knowledge of the regulations governing loan programs, demonstrated ability in coordinating numerous details to ensure policy compliance and overall efficiency, and skill in training personnel on technical systems are all attributes that describe Ms. Pickerel's experience in the area of financial aid.
Ms. Pickerel's introduction to higher education began more than 17 years ago as part of the international admissions office at the University of Nebraska. She became familiar with all the foreign academic records and validated their transfer credits to ensure standardization and consistency. As the Student Loan Program Specialist for Nelnet/Nebhelp, Ms. Pickerel's responsibilities included the student loan origination program, which involved the receipt of applications and the processing and disbursing of funds to schools. She provided technical assistance to borrowers, schools, and other individuals with regard to the student loan process.
At Southeast Community College where Ms. Pickerel served as the Financial Aid Associate Director, she managed the Title IV student loan programs for all three campuses and coordinated the disbursement of financial aid proceeds with the campus area business offices. She regularly monitored student withdrawals and R2T4 refund calculations to meet federal guidelines. Finally, she established the college's policies and procedures for the management and delivery of financial aid while maintaining a positive business relationship with other college constituents.
